When Is the Best Time to Schedule Your Maternity Photos?
One of the most common questions I hear is about timing. Knowing when to schedule your maternity photos can make a meaningful difference. Because every pregnancy is unique, the answer is both simple and personal.
In general, the best time to photograph maternity is between 28 and 34 weeks. During this window, your belly is beautifully rounded. At the same time, most clients still feel comfortable moving and posing. Therefore, this range offers the best balance of shape and energy.
However, there are important factors to consider. Every body carries differently. Some clients show earlier, while others prefer waiting. Additionally, comfort levels vary from person to person. Because of this, I always guide clients individually.
Moreover, scheduling earlier allows flexibility. Life during pregnancy can be unpredictable. Appointments change, energy fluctuates, and plans shift. As a result, having buffer time reduces stress and keeps the experience enjoyable.
For high-risk pregnancies or twins, timing may be sooner. In these cases, I often recommend scheduling around 26 to 28 weeks. That way, we capture the moment before discomfort increases. Consequently, the session feels more relaxed and supported.
Season and lighting also matter. Depending on the time of year, outdoor light changes quickly. Therefore, planning ahead ensures the best conditions for your session. Additionally, studio availability fills quickly, especially for weekend dates.
