Nude Maternity: Tips for an Empowering Session

If you ask me, there might not be anything more beautiful than a pregnant woman. Pregnant women are so full of life and this raw inner power that honestly inspires me in ways I can’t even describe. As both a maternity and boudoir photographer, any opportunity I am given to celebrate the miracle of women is a blessing.

Women that are pregnant don’t always see that same beauty in themselves that I see – and I get it! You’re tired, you’re aching, you’re hungry, you’re hot … pregnancy is hard work!

This is exactly why I feel like boudoir maternity is such an empowering experience for moms to be.

There are a few things that I’d love to recommend to any mother-to-be that is considering a nude maternity session. These are simple tips that will help you make the most of your session, while also giving you a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I know you’ll look back on with pride.

Tips for an Empowering Nude Maternity Session

1.) Get your hair and makeup done by a professional artist. This will not only help you look incredible, but it also is a major confidence booster! I include professional hair and makeup with all of my boudoir sessions, so I’ve got you covered.

2.) Think sheer! If you’re not comfortable with doing absolutely nude maternity photos, consider utilizing sheer materials like robes, lingerie and even bed sheets!

3.) Treat your nails (and your feet!) to a special treat! Consider getting a professional manicure and pedicure before your session. This will not only feel great (yay for foot rubs!), but it will help your hands look amazing. I like to utilize your hands during sessions – running your fingers through your hair, cradling your baby bump, etc. – so having your nails done will give your photos a polished look!

Now that you know what to do, I want to share just a couple of what not to do’s for your nude maternity session!

1.) Don’t get a spray tan right before. I know you want to look nice and tan, but, spray tans photograph orange and often splotchy. It’s just the truth of it!

2.) Don’t wax less than 2-3 days before your session. Body grooming is a totally personal choice, but if you do choose to wax – be sure you don’t do it right before your session. Red bumps and red skin is not the look we are going for!

3.) Don’t wear tight clothing the day of your session. Think loose and comfy – tight clothing can leave red marks and indentions on your skin!
