So, you have an upcoming boudoir session? Awesome! I’m soooo excited to see you in my studio, we are going to have the most incredible time together. Right now you’re probably wondering what you can do to prepare for your session?
Well, you’re in luck, because today I’m going to share my top 5 tips for a boudoir session! These are the things you might not have ever thought about, but they are things that I come across all the time as Denver’s top boudoir photographer.
5 Tips for a Boudoir Session That Will Surprise You
Make sure you bookmark this blog and save it to your Pinterest board! You ready?! Let’s go!
Tip #1: Wear heels!
This one might be a no-brainer, but there’s legit science behind the idea of wearing heels. You see, high heels – while not always super comfortable – create an optical illusion of having longer legs … and who doesn’t want longer legs!? Long legs not only look leaner, but they create muscle definition in the calves and thighs which is super, super sexy. Need more ideas on what to wear? Tip #2: Do NOT get a spray tan!
Now, before you start saying, “but Ginny, I’m so pale!” let me explain. Don’t do it right before your session, if you’re going to get a spray tan. Why? Because your skin needs time to settle and at least one rinse off, according to this article from Women’s Health Magazine. This is how you can avoid tanning faux pas like streaking, dark spots, pale hands and orange tones.
So how long before your session should you get a spray tan? 2-3 days seems to be the best bet. If you’ve never had a spray tan done before, I would also recommend doing it a few weeks before your session at least once to make sure you even like the way it looks!
Tip #3: Get a Mani/Pedi
Okay, this might not be on the more surprising tips for a boudoir session, but, it’s definitely one worth mentioning. Why? Because I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had women come in for their session and want to hide their hands because they didn’t get a manicure. Even if you don’t wear colored polish, that’s okay – getting your hands primped on before your session has a couple awesome perks.
For one, your hands look great – nails are trimmed, no hangnails and your skin will look amazing.
For two, who doesn’t love a little bit of pampering!?
Tip #4: Drink a ton of water in the days leading up to your session
Did you know most women are perpetually dehydrated? It’s totally true, most people in general don’t drink as much water as they should be, and it can cause all kinds of issues. Why do I mention it? How could being dehydrated have an effect on your boudoir session?
Because, my friend, drinking water has a ton of amazingly positive effects on your body including reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, reduces your acne, makes your skin pores appear smaller, and can (obviously) hydrate your skin so it doesn’t look dry or flaky.
Tip #5: Do some light stretching the morning of your session
Unless you are a dancer or a regularly practicing yogi, you might not be used to arching to accentuate your curves. In the morning, do some light stretching for your entire body to get you nice and warmed up before your boudoir session. Since you’ll be nice and hydrated (see tip #4!), you won’t be so sore the day after your session, either!
